Samuel Denmeade, M.D.
Dr. Samuel Denmeade is co-inventor of PRX302, Protox’s lead candidate for the treatment of prostate cancer and BPH. He is Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and also a member of the Chemical Therapeutics Program within the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. He has an active clinical practice in genitourinary oncology and has been the principal investigator in several clinical trials in addition to being a co-investigator in a large number of trials conducted by the Genitourinary Oncology Clinical Group at Johns Hopkins. Dr Denmeade has published over 50 papers based on his laboratory research most of them focused in the development of targeted therapies for prostate cancer. Dr. Denmeade has been the recipient of several research awards including those from the NIH, the Department of Defense, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biochemistry from Columbia University and earned his MD at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He received his residency training at the University of Chicago before his fellowship training in medical oncology at Johns Hopkins. Dr Denmeade is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal, The Prostate.

Martin Gleave, MD
Chief Medical Advisor

Dr. Gleave is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Director of the Prostate Center at Vancouver General Hospital, Director of Research for the Department of Urologic Sciences at UBC, and Chairs the Genito-Urinary Tumour Group Chair at BC Cancer Agency. He is the past Chair of the National Cancer Institute of Canada GU Clinical Trials Group, and the Canadian Uro-Oncology Group. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, and currently has more than $50M in peer reviewed funding. Dr. Gleave's major research focus involves the study of molecular mechanisms mediating progression of prostate cancer to its lethal stage of castrate resistance, and use of this information to develop integrated multimodality therapies. Dr. Gleave is the Founder and CSO of OncoGenex Inc., focused on developing new cancer therapies that address treatment resistance in cancer patients.

Mostafa Elhilali, MD

Dr. Elhilali is presently the Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and also holds the position of Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Urology at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. In addition, he is Surgeon-in-Chief at the Royal Victoria and Montreal General Hospitals and Urologist at both hospitals. He is an officer of the Order of Canada. Professor Elhilali is an active member of many national and international societies including the Canadian Urological Association, American Urological Association, and the European Urological Association. He has also been the recipient of numerous awards, most recently these included the life achievement award of the CUA, the AUA Distinguished Contribution Award, and recently received the Kidney Foundation of Canada Founder Award. In 2009, Dr. Elhilali was honoured by the American Urological Association (AUA) with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Claus Roehrborn, MD

Dr. Roehrborn is currently in at University of Texas Southwestern, where he is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology. Dr. Roehrborn's research interests are in the areas of benign and malignant prostate diseases, including medical and minimally invasive therapies for BPH, and markers for prostate cancer. In addition, he has a background in urological ultrasound and has chaired numerous postgraduate courses and lectured on a variety of topics in ultrasound imaging of the urinary tract. His basic, translational and clinical research has yielded over 250 peer-reviewed publications, more than 30 book chapters, and numerous other contributions to the literature. Aside from being invited to give lectures all over the world, Dr. Roehrborn has chaired or participated in many postgraduate courses and has been visiting professor at leading urological institutions in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Roehrborn serves on the editorial board of many peer-reviewed journals, is associate editor of Urology, and coeditor of the comprehensive and authoritative Textbook of BPH.

Jean de la Rosette, MD
Dr. de la Rosette is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology, at AMC University Hospital in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. de la Rosette is the chairman of the committee on Minimal Invasive Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) of the International Consultation on BPH. He is also chairman of the committee on Renal Stone Disease of the International Consultation on Stone Diseases. Both consultations are patronised by the World Health Organisation (WHO). He is past chairman of the European Society of Uro-Technology (ESUT) and board member of the Society of Endourology. Dr. de la Rosette was chairman of the European Association of Urology (EAU) working party on BPH guidelines from 1996 until 2004. Dr. de la Rosette is author of over 300 peer reviewed publications and has authored many book chapters. He is the editor of books in the field of laparoscopy, renal carcinoma, prostate diseases, urological imaging and voiding dysfunction. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Endourology and European Urology.

Larry Goldenberg, MD
Dr. Larry Goldenberg has dedicated his career as a surgeon to seeking out the best possible care for the citizens of British Columbia. The numerous clinical trials conducted under his leadership have put BC on the map as a leader in urology and prostate cancer research and treatment. Through his vision and leadership, the Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital has developed into one of the top prostate research, education and healthcare delivery programs in the world. It has been recognized by the federal government and the University of British Columbia as a Centre of Excellence for Prostate Research. Dr. Goldenberg is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urologic Sciences at UBC, and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health sciences. He has served on numerous hospital, university, national and international boards and committees. He is a co-founder of the Canadian Urologic-Oncology Group, and past-president of both the Canadian Urological Association and the Western section of the American Urological Association. Dr. Larry Goldenberg was a pioneer in the use of intermittent hormone withdrawal for the management of prostate cancer, which is now used worldwide as a treatment option for this disease.

Ralph Smalling, BSc
Ralph graduated from Occidental College with a BA in Biology and attended California State University at Long Beach (UCSB) where he obtained his Masters Degree in Microbiology. He joined Amgen's R&D group in 1982 where he was involved in the development of mammalian cell expression systems for the production of recombinant proteins, which included erythropoietin. Ralph joined the Regulatory Affairs Department in 1985 where he held roles of increasing importance; and was ultimately named to Amgen's most senior regulatory affairs position. As Vice President he was responsible for US and European Regulatory Affairs and for providing regulatory oversight to Canada, Australia and Japan. International Clinical Safety was added to his responsibilities in 1999. He was part of the industry team that negotiated PDUFA 2 and helped author several provisions of the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act that was passed by Congress 1997. In 2005 he left Amgen and established Linus Consulting where he is continues to provide regulatory and product development support, primarily to the Biotechnology industry.
