Dr. Ekman joined Protox as Chairman in November 2010 and accepted the role of Executive Chairman and President in April 2011. Dr. Ekman is Founder & Executive Chairman of Cebix Incorporated, an Executive-in-Residence of Warburg Pincus and Executive Partner of Sofinnova Ventures. During 2001 to 2007, Dr. Ekman was EVP & President of Research & Development at Elan Pharmaceuticals where he advanced Elan's drug development pipeline by securing four US NDAs, three European MAAs and five INDs. Prior to joining Elan, Dr. Ekman was EVP, Research and Development at Schwartz Pharma AG (now UCB) and held various senior scientific and clinical functions from 1984 to 1997 at Pharmacia (now Pfizer). Dr. Ekman is a Director of Elan Corporation where he chairs the Science and Technology Committee. He is also a director of InterMune Inc., Ocera Therapeutics, Inc., and Amarin Corporation. Dr. Ekman is a board certified surgeon with a PhD in experimental biology. He obtained his PhD and MD from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Mr. Leff is a Managing Director of Warburg Pincus where he focuses on investments in healthcare. Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, he was a consultant at Oliver, Wyman & Co. Mr. Leff received an A.B. in government from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Mr. Leff is a director of Allos Therapeutics, Inc., Hana Biosciences, Inc., Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc., InterMune, Inc. and Rib-X. Mr. Leff also serves on the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, and is chairman of the Medical Industry Group of the National Venture Capital Association. In addition, Mr. Leff is a director of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Visitors of Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. de Silva is a principal with Warburg Pincus where he focuses on investments in healthcare. Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, Dr. de Silva worked at the Sprout Group in healthcare venture capital and at McKinsey & Company in biotechnology and pharmaceutical strategy. He is also a Director of Allos Therapeutics, Inc. and Hana Biosciences, Inc. Dr. de Silva holds a B.A. in Biology from Harvard College, an M.D. from The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School.
Mr. Holler served as President & CEO of Xenon Genetics Inc., from February 1999 to June 2003. At Xenon, Mr. Holler negotiated a $87 million partnership agreement with Pfizer, and completed a $74 million mezzanine financing with US and Canadian institutional investors - the largest private placement to that date by a Canadian biotechnology company. Mr. Holler was President & CEO and a co-founder of ID Biomedical Corporation a TSX/ NASDAQ listed biotechnology company. Mr Holler was also a founding director of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, a TSX/ NASDAQ listed biotechnology company. Prior to working in biotechnology and healthcare, Mr. Holler was a Vice President of Investment Banking with Merrill Lynch Canada and CIBC World Markets.
Mr. Heppell is a founding Partner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst Corporate Finance Lawyers of Vancouver, British Columbia. Most recently, he has focused on investing in BC life science companies, initially as an active angel investor and now as a venture capitalist. Mr. Heppell is President and Fund Manager of Life Sciences for BC Advantage Funds (VCC) Ltd., which is a venture fund dedicated to investing in early-stage life science and technology companies in British Columbia. He is also Chairman of the Board of Inovio Biomedical Corporation based in San Diego. In addition to his activities in the British Columbia's life science industry, Mr. Heppell is also the Managing Director-Western Canada of Gold Medal Plates, a partner of the Canadian Olympic Committee, committed to raising money for Canadian athletes training for the Olympics.
Until recently, Dr. Geltosky was Vice President of External Science, Technology and Licensing at Bristol Myers Squibb (“BMS”) where he was responsible for the acquisition and licensing as well as coordinating due diligence efforts on potential in- and out-licensing candidates. While at BMS he also supported collaborations with Merck, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer. Prior to joining BMS, Dr. Geltosky was President and Chief Executive Officer of Message Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Message Pharmaceuticals he was Vice President, Scientific Licensing, World Wide Business Development at SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline). For 10 years, he held roles of increasing responsibility within Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Geltosky began his career as a research scientist at E.I. DuPont.
Dr. Geltosky holds a B.S. in chemistry from Memphis State University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the California Institute of Technology. He is currently on the Board of Directors at Enzon Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ENZN)
Mr. Rohn has over 30 years of experience as a senior executive in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. He retired in January of 2005 from the position of Chief Operating Officer at Biogen-Idec, a major global biotech company. Mr. Rohn played an instrumental role in the $6.8 billion merger of IDEC Pharmaceuticals and Biogen Inc. Prior to serving as COO of the combined company, Mr. Rohn was the President and Chief Operating Officer of IDEC Pharmaceuticals where he helped transform IDEC from a small research organization into a very successful, biotechnology company. Before moving to the fledgling biotech industry, Mr. Rohn spent approximately 25 years in the pharmaceutical sector in a variety of commercial operating roles of increasing responsibilities at Abbott Laboratories, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., and Adria Laboratories (now part of Pfizer). In addition to his role at Protox, Mr. Rohn serves on the Board of Directors of Cerus Corporation, Intellikine, Cebix Inc., and the La Jolla Institute of Allergy and Immunology.
Mr. Sobti is a Principal at Warburg Pincus LLC. where he focuses on the healthcare sector. Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, he worked at Rhône Capital, a middle market private equity firm, and at Merrill Lynch in the Mergers & Acquisitions group. Mr. Sobti received an A.B. in Business Economics and an A.B. in Computer Science from Brown University. In addition to Protox, Mr. Sobti also serves on the Board of Directors of ReSearch Pharmaceutical Services, Inc.
