News ReleasesProtox Therapeutics Announces Presentation of Data at Leading Cancer Research Conference Monday, April 3, 2006 - Vancouver, Canada - Protox Therapeutics Inc. (TSX-V: PRX) announced today that preclinical data demonstrating PRX302’s validity as a treatment for prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is being presented in a poster session at the 97th Meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), which is being held this week at the Washington Convention Centre in Washington, D.C. The poster, entitled PSA-Activated Proaerolysin as a Prostate Specific Cancer Therapy, summarizes data generated from studies conducted at the Cancer Research Institute at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas under the direction of Dr. Arthur Frankel. The results confirm that PRX302, Protox’s lead drug, is preferentially activated by PSA (prostate specific antigen) and selectively kills PSA producing cells. This selectivity is expected to translate into an effective treatment with less toxicity than current treatments for both prostate cancer and BPH, conditions in which PSA is produced in elevated levels by prostate cells. The presentation will take place on April 3rd, 2006 between 8:00a.m. and 12:00p.m. EST in the Exhibit Hall, Poster Section 17, number 19. Earlier this year, Protox received FDA clearance to begin a Phase I clinical trial with PRX302 for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. The trial is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2006. About The AACR Annual Meeting: About Protox Therapeutics: For more information, contact: |
