(TSX-V: PRX) announced today that it has filed a provisional patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office entitled “Modified Protein Toxins and Use Thereof for Treating Disease”. The patent application provides added protection for drug candidates generated through the PORxin platform whose binding sites are altered to target certain types of cells including cancer cells. “This application demonstrates our commitment to build a broad intellectual property portfolio around our PORxin platform,” said Dr. Fahar Merchant, President and CEO of the Company. “Altering the binding site enables us to increase the specificity of our drugs, which in turn allows us greater flexibility to administer and treat a much wider range of diseases.
